2020 Derecho in Warner Parks
One year ago, a sudden thunderstorm generated straight-line winds with tornadic force. This “derecho” brought down a massive oak tree in Warner Parks at the exact time that William Nolan and Cassie Rooke were passing by on the Mossy Ridge Trail. Cassie and William came very close to losing their lives during this storm. Fortunately, there were special people in the area who were willing to put their own lives at risk to help others.
The first responders, the Trail Angels (as we call them), showed incredible kindness and selflessness as they ignored their own safety and ran to the aide of others, hearing the call of Cassie’s cry for help amidst the chaos of the storm. They provided first aid and comfort, called 911, and saved the lives of Cassie and William.
So too did the ER doctors and orthopedic surgeons save their lives and facilitate a comprehensive, albeit extensive, recovery process.
On the other side of the storm, William and Cassie came together in Warner Parks with those that saved their lives, to celebrate life and their connection to one another.
We were honored to bear witness to the courage and selflessness to all involved, and honored to share a celebration (pictured above) with Cassie and William, William’s parents, 3 of the angels and one of their doctors.
