A special guest at our banding station last week—a Brown Creeper! These little winter visitors spiral up tree trunks in search of insects, using their slender beaks to probe the bark. They move through the forest one tree at a time, "creeping" up the trunks. They blend in so well with tree bark that they're easy to miss, but if you're lucky, you might spot one at a suet feeder! We don't get to see too many of these little birds at our banding table, so it was quite a treat to admire this one up close. 🔎 First of the Season! One of our BIRD volunteers also spotted the first Tree Swallows of the year—migratory visitors just arriving from the Southern US & Central America. With spring around the corner, many more birds will soon follow! This week by the numbers:

4: Special shoutout to this class from Cumberland University that stopped by to observe bird banding! The Warner Parks BIRD Program has a public banding station at the @warnerparknaturecenter 🌳 You can watch federally licensed researchers capture, record, and band migratory and resident birds up close! All ages are welcome. Join us at the last BIRD Banding session of the winter season tomorrow, March 4th from 8am to Noon.
