Discover the Hill Forest
An undisturbed ecosystem exists within Warner Parks – one of the largest protected tracts of uncut forest within an urban setting across the United States – The Hill Forest. It’s tucked away for good reason, but that’s not to say there aren’t special opportunities to discover it for yourself.
Power of Public-Private Partnership
Friends of Warner Parks acquired a total of 500 acres as a part of our land acquisition campaign in 2009; 324 of which from the H.G. Hill Realty Company. Approximately half of the acquired land would come to be known as the Burch Reserve (accessible off of Highway 100), and the other half, The Hill Forest. Both are part of Edwin Warner Park, ownership being transferred to Metro Parks.
In 2010, The Tennessee State Legislature recognized 225 of the acres as the Hill Forest Designated State Natural Area, providing additional protection for the old-growth forest within the boundaries.
Treading Lightly
Because it is an undisturbed ecosystem, we account for every footstep taken on the precious grounds. Access to the property is limited to permits and guided programs led by trained staff and volunteers; we limit the number of visitors per month and will postpone hikes due to rainfall or heavily saturated soil. See calendar for upcoming hikes. Please note, hikes are not led during the summer months.
